The Rasa Aesthetic within Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa and Salman Rushdie’s The Moor’s Last Sigh

A paper exploring the differences between literary frameworks originating from Aristotelian theory and those originating from Abhināvagupta and Ānandhavardhanā’s commentaries on the Nātyasāstra.

Presented at the 22nd Annual International Comparative Literature Association held at the University of Macau.


Shyam holds a BA in Law from University College London and an MA in Comparative Literature from King’s College London.

Her areas of interest include Rasa Theory and art across cultures.
